Manufacturing KPIs
What each KPI means, how it's calculated, and why it matters.
Utilisation
Formula: ACTIVE time / Total tracked time x 100. Shows how much capacity is used for production.
Availability
Formula: (Total - Unplanned downtime) / Total x 100. Planned downtime doesn't reduce availability.
Throughput
Parts per hour, target attainment %, total parts. Shows actual output.
Stoppage Pareto
Top reasons machines stop, ranked by duration. 80/20 rule for improvement focus.
MTBF
Mean Time Between Failures — avg ACTIVE duration before ALARM. Low = frequent failures.
MTTR
Mean Time To Repair — avg ALARM duration. High = slow maintenance response.
| Combination | Meaning |
|---|---|
| High MTBF + Low MTTR | Reliable, quick recovery (ideal) |
| Low MTBF + Low MTTR | Frequent failures, quick fixes |
| High MTBF + High MTTR | Rare failures, slow recovery |
| Low MTBF + High MTTR | Critical attention needed |
Scrap
Total rejected parts per machine, reported via uns-input.
